This is the page Freshmen see:

New Students: Welcome to your E-Portfolio!

Summer Registration for the Class of 2010 You can register online for an FYI seminar and a selected introductory course between June 5 and July 14. If you register using the paper form, your form must be received at the Orientation Office by July 7. Whether you register by the online or paper deadlines, your faculty advisor and course reservations will be posted on the Summer Reg Confirmation page in mid-August. If your information was received after the deadline, only your faculty advisor assignment will appear on the Summer Reg Confirmation page. Click here to access Summer Registration!

Placement Tests: These tests are used to make a placement recommendation for you. Online tests are offered in Mathematics, French, Italian and Spanish.

  • Mathematics Test: All students in the Class of 2010 must complete the online Mathematics placement test by August 28, 2006. Two forms of the math test are offered: Test 1 is intended for students who have not previously studied calculus. Test 2 is intended for students who have studied calculus for a semester or more.
  • French, Italian and Spanish Tests: These are required for any student who intends to continue studying French, Italian or Spanish language at Wesleyan. For French or Spanish (only), you do not need to take the online test if you received a score of 3 or above on an AP test.

Faculty from the Mathematics and Romance Languages departments will be available during Orientation to discuss placement recommendations. Click here to access tests and instructions!

Note: Placement tests for other languages are administered on campus during Orientation. See your June mailing or the Orientation website for instructions.

If you have difficulty accessing the test, please contact the Orientation Office at orientation@wesleyan.edu or call (860) 685-6668. Click AP & Placement Info in the New Student Programs section to view placement recommendation information.

Peer Advising: As a first-year student, you are assigned a Peer Advisor. Peer Advisors are Wesleyan juniors and seniors who will be available during Orientation and throughout the academic year to answer any questions you have about the registration process. Your Peer Advisor can help you to prepare for your first meetings with your Faculty Advisor, show you how to use the online course catalogue Wesmaps, and provide guidance on how to access the various kinds of academic resources available at Wesleyan. Click here for more information on Peer Advising!

Beginning in August, some Peer Advisors will be available online to answer any questions you have about academics, prior to your arrival at Wesleyan. Return here in August to post questions to Peer Advisors!

Your E-Portfolio: Your packet includes a brochure and flyer giving some guidelines on making the most of your E-Portfolio. Take some time to explore!

When you logged in, you were taken to a customizable “My Home Page.” At the top of the page you'll find the following buttons:

  • “My Student Portfolio” takes you into your Student Portfolio and displays a site map of its contents. Once you are in the Student Portfolio, you can use the “My Home Page” button to get back to the home page.
  • You'll find links here to BlackBoard, Webmail and the Wesleyan website search engine, as well as a link to Student Activities.
  • You'll find a long, narrow alert box. During important on-line activities, such as Pre-registration, Adjustment, or Drop/Add, an alert here will provide a link right to the proper page in your EPortfolio.

Here are some sections that will be particularly helpful this summer:

On “My Home Page”

  • New Student Programs - This section can be accessed from either the Home Page (toward the bottom left of the page) or the Student Portfolio (in the “Campus Life” column, third from the left). Besides accessing your placement exams, you will use this section to pre-register for courses and to provide us with information that will help us match you with an advisor. It also includes useful information about your upcoming Orientation week on campus.
  • Orientation Links - “My Home Page” also contains a special section about New Student Orientation. During the year this information will be replaced by Wesleyan Student Assembly News.

In “My Student Portfolio”

  • New Student Programs - This section is available on both the Home Page and in the Student E-Portfolio. Besides accessing your placement exams, you will use this section to pre-register for courses and to provide us with information that will help us match you with an advisor. It also includes useful information about your upcoming Orientation week on campus.
  • How to Find Courses - Use this section to explore the vast and varied curriculum at Wesleyan. The on-line course catalog (Wesmaps) uses a powerful search engine and the Courses of Interest link lets you bookmark courses you like so that you can discuss them later with your advisor.
  • Resume & Dossier - Use this section to include additional information about yourself. Create a Welcome Page for your portfolio and attach samples of your work (papers, digital images of art projects, etc.) on the Samples of Your Work page. Also, do some thinking and writing about your own skills and goals in the sections provided. Having all of this information and reflection available in one place will help you and your advisor as you develop your academic program for your first year.
